TERENCE E. SMOLEV, ESQ. SERVES ON
NASSAU COUNTY DEPARTMENT OF ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT’S
LOAN ADVISORY COMMITTEE
Mineola, December 11, 2002 — Terence E. Smolev, Esq.,
a partner at the Mineola-based law firm Forchelli, Curto, Deegan, Schwartz, Mineo, Cohn & Terrana, LLP,
and a resident of Jericho, NY, is serving as an expert member
of the Nassau County Micro-Enterprise Loan Program Loan
Advisory Committee of the Nassau County Department of Economic
Development.
Smolev, partner-in-charge of The Firm’s Tax, Trust
and Estates Division, brings over 33 years experience in
business law, tax law, estate planning, and accounting to
Nassau County’s Loan Advisory Committee — established
to review all loan recommendations for compliance with proper
policies and procedures. The loans being offered through
the Nassau County Micro-Enterprise Loan Program are of greater
risk than those offered by traditional lenders, and the
County has created the committee to ensure oversight by
an objective entity.
Deputy County Executive Peter T. Sylver announced the appointment
in mid-December 2002. “Mr. Smolev has graciously agreed
to serve the public in this volunteer capacity and to share
his expertise in a time of economic review for the County,”
noted Sylver. “We are grateful for his gift of time
and experience.”
A graduate of Washington College of Law at The American
University, and New York University Graduate School of Law,
Smolev began his career at the New York City accounting
firm of Peat Marwick Mitchell & Co. before establishing
a private practice and eventually joining The Firm in
2000. “I look forward to serving Nassau County in
this capacity,” stated Smolev who begins his active
term in January 2003. “Careful loan review is essential
to the County in the budget year ahead and beyond.”
In addition to his practice and volunteer interests, Smolev
is an adjunct professor at Hofstra University Schools of
Business and Law, serves as an Impartial Hearing Officer
for disputes in the public school system, and serves on
the Hofstra Board of Trustees and the Board of the Long
Island Chapter of the Anti-Defamation League.
