ATTORNEY TERENCE
E. SMOLEV ELECTED TO BOARD OF NEW YORK CITY POLICE MUSEUM
Mineola, July 16, 2003 — Terence E. Smolev, Esq.,
has been elected to serve on the Board of Directors of the
New York City Police Museum. His term began on July 1st.
Smolev, of Jericho, NY, is Partner-in-charge of the Tax,
Trusts and Estates Division of Long Island’s thirteenth
largest law firm, Forchelli, Curto, Deegan, Schwartz, Mineo, Cohn & Terrana, LLP.
“Terry is a welcome addition to our Board,”
stated Museum Executive Committee President Carol Safir,
wife of former New York City Police Commissioner Howard
Safir. “He brings acute awareness and expertise to
matters affecting not-for-profit organizations, and a sensitivity
to our mission to preserve the history of those men and
women in blue who protect society.”
Current members of the Board of the New York City Police
Museum located at 100 Old Slip in lower Manhattan -- four
blocks from the South Street Seaport -- include: Bill Fugazy,
Mary Hardin, William C. Rudin, Howard Safir, and John Wren.
“I know Americans understand the service given our
nation by those in uniform,” said Smolev. “And
since 9-11, the New York City police force is truly emblematic
of all that we hold dear and try to protect. My tenure on
the Board of the Museum is an attempt to reciprocate in
some manner – to help preserve and communicate the
legacy of a police force that has protected New York for
over 150 years.”
Smolev began his career at a New York City accounting firm
before establishing a private legal practice on Long Island
and eventually merging his firm with The Firm in 2000.
A graduate of Washington College of Law at The American
University, and New York University Graduate School of Law,
Smolev is an adjunct professor at Hofstra University Schools
of Business and Law. He was recently appointed an expert
member of the Nassau County Micro-Enterprise Loan Program
of the Loan Advisory Committee of the Nassau County Department
of Economic Development. He also serves on the Hofstra University
Board of Trustees and the Israeli Bond Long Island Cabinet.
He is an Impartial Hearing Officer for disputes in the public
school and municipal systems.
On August 4, 2003, Smolev is to be honored at The Rod Gilbert
Annual Golf Tournament, benefiting the Diabetes Research
Foundation.
