ANTHONY V.
CUTRO APPOINTED LONG ISLAND GOLF ASSOCATION COUNSEL
Mineola, September 30, 2003 — Anthony V. Curto, prominent
Long Island attorney and name partner at the law firm Forchelli,
Curto, Schwartz, Mineo, Carlino & Cohn, LLP (Mineola,
NY), has accepted the appointment of Counsel to the Long
Island Golf Association (LIGA), headquartered in Garden
City, NY. The LIGA is a non-profit organization of 91 private
and public clubs.
According to LIGA President Peter F. Barry, Curto’s
legal background in commercial law, as well as his dedication
to Long Island in serving community-based and not-for-profit
organizations, led to the LIGA selection. “Tony Curto
brings his capabilities to the LIGA at an important time
in our growth,” stated Barry. “The LIGA is in
the process of committing to several new relationships and
Tony will secure proper and legal resolutions to these commitments.”
The LIGA conducts thirteen championships for its members
and fields a team of the Island’s best amateurs to
compete annually in the Stoddard Trophy against teams from
the tri-state area. In addition, the LIGA is a major contributor
to the Long Island Caddie scholarship fund, a tax-exempt
entity established in 1962, offering scholarship grants
to caddies employed at member clubs.
“I am pleased to represent LIGA even as it may mean
less time for my own golf game,” joked Curto. “The
Association counts the majority of Long Island courses among
it members, and serves as an important resource on matters
affecting golf, golfers and golf clubs. Equally important,
the LIGA represents its members in cooperative matters with
the United States Golf Association, including significant
environmental issues.
In addition to leading his firm’s corporate transactional
division, Curto’s resume is a “who’s who”
of legal representation. He has represented Aleksandr I.
Solzhenitsyn, Harry Chapin, Freeman McNeil, and Liza Minnelli,
among others, and currently represents guitarist Esteban
-- one of today’s top Billboard artists -- and Mike
Francesa, co-host of “Mike and The Mad Dog”
show on WFAN. He has been associated with high-profile business
matters, and was the first attorney to successfully negotiate
a trademark from the NFL for a fan - the Jets team superfan
“Fireman Eddie.”
Upon gaining office in 2002, Nassau County Executive Thomas
Suozzi selected Curto to serve on the Nassau County Council
of Economic Advisors to work with the new administration
to expand the county’s tax base. Curto is the recipient
of a Congressional Achievement Award and a Martin Luther
King “Living the Dream” Service Award.
On October 14, 2003, Curto will chair the 5th Annual Tommy
Awards at the Crest Hollow Country Club, benefiting Telecare
- the television station of the Diocese of Rockville Centre,
and honoring NY Jets Football legend Joe Namath, best selling
author May Higgins Clark, and Frederic V. Salerno of Verizon.
