JEFFREY D. FORCHELLI SCHOLARSHIP FUND ESTABLISHED AT HOFSTRA UNIVERSITY SCHOOL OF LAW

Mineola, December 10, 2003 — Attorney Jeffrey D. Forchelli, founder and managing partner of Forchelli, Curto, Deegan, Schwartz, Mineo, Cohn & Terrana, LLP, and one of Long Island’s most prominent attorneys, has established a $25,000 scholarship fund at Hofstra University School of Law (Hempstead, NY), providing financial assistance to a first year student in need.

“Based on 25 years as managing partner at The Firm, I’m convinced of the importance of a superior law school education in the development of attorneys who are dedicated, well-trained, and ethical,” explained Forchelli in describing his reasons for establishing the Jeffrey D. Forchelli Scholarship Fund. “I want to give something back to my chosen profession, and to support by practical means the quality education available at Hofstra Law School. This scholarship will help ensure the future of the single most important asset at any law firm — its attorneys.”

Hofstra University School of Law was founded in 1970. Presently led by Dean David Yellen, it has built a faculty of scholars with a shared dedication to teaching that employs traditional courses, simulations, and clinical lessons to help students master practical skills in writing, and trial and advocacy, while developing a deep understanding of law. The faculty’s range of professional experience, including clerkships for Supreme Court Justices, public interest work, and law firms of all sizes, benefits students by ensuring that the curriculum is continually updated to meet the needs of new lawyers and the legal community.

According to Hofstra University School of Law Assistant Dean Margaret Sirot, Jeffrey Forchelli requested only one other criteria of the scholarship applicant beyond need. “Mr. Forchelli has requested that the applicant be civic-minded, demonstrating an obligation to the larger community.”
“At The Firm, we’ve direct evidence of the caliber of Hofstra University Law School graduates for we’ve several alumni among our associates and partners,” adds Forchelli. “Hofstra is a school we actively recruit.”

Jeffrey D. Forchelli earned his J.D. at Brooklyn Law School in 1969 and founded the The Firm firm in 1976, serving to this day as managing partner. He concentrates his practice on complex real estate and land use matters, including litigation and tax certiorari, for major real estate developers and national corporations. His client list includes Northrop Grumman Corp and Cablevision Systems Corp. Today, the firm ranks 13th in size on Long Island with comprehensive legal services and 36 attorneys. The firm is headquarted in Mineola, NY, with additional offices in Melville.

Forchelli has served as Counsel to the New York State Assembly and the Legal Advisory Board, as well as Board of Directors for Security Title and Guaranty Company. He is a member of the New York State and Nassau Country Bar Associations, and a Fellow of The New York Bar Foundation. He is consistently named among the Who’s Who in Law published by the Long Island Business News and was selected for inclusion in the 8th edition of Who’s Who in American Law.
Forchelli and his wife, Sadie, make their home in Lattingtown, NY.
