Aaron Gershonowitz,
Esq. Named Partner at The Firm
Mineola, January 13, 2004 — The Mineola-based law
firm, Forchelli, Curto, Deegan, Schwartz, Mineo, Cohn & Terrana, LLP, has named Aaron Gershonowitz a partner
of the firm, which was founded in 1976.
Gershonowitz, a resident of West Hempstead, joined The Firm
in 1996, concentrating his practice in environmental law,
particularly in the environmental aspects of land use and
commercial real estate, and representation of potential
responsible parties at Superfund sites, defense of enforcement
actions and obtaining environmental permits. At The Firm,
he has been instrumental in the complex transactions pertaining
to Northrop Grumman Corporation’s Long Island property.
Environmental issues in these transactions have included
investigation, remediation, negotiation with purchasers
and governmental agencies, and environmental review required
for subdivision and change of zone.
In making the announcement, The Firm Managing Partner
Jeffrey D. Forchelli described Gershonowitz's contributions
to the firm: "Aaron is a highly regarded expert in
environmental law and his skills contribute directly to
our successful representation of real estate clients. He
contributes to our profession's understanding of land use
matters, and is consistently invited to author articles
for legal journals on a range of topics, from regulatory
oversight to the conversion of brownfields. His expertise
is indispensable to the firm and to the field of law."
Prior to joining The Firm, Gershonowitz was in private
practice and also served as in-house environmental counsel
at Grumman Aerospace Corporation, later, Northrop Grumman.
He was involved in the 1980s Agent Orange class action suit
and was a teaching fellow at the University of Chicago Law
School and served as an associate professor at Western New
England Law School.
"My experience all came together at The Firm,"
observes Gershonowitz. "The firm is a regional leader
in real estate law and I have had the opportunity to work
on exciting and complex real estate transactions."
Gershonowitz earned his J.D. at George Washington University
Law Center and his B.A. in political science and philosophy
from the University of Pittsburgh. He academic honors include
Phi Beta Kappa and Law Review. He is a member of the Environmental
Law Committee of the New York State Bar Association. He
and his wife, Sheera, enjoy family pastimes with their four
children.
