Partner Terence E. Smolev Honored
by the Alzheimer’s Foundation of America
Uniondale, June, 2010 — Terence
E. Smolev, partner-in- charge of the Tax, Trusts and
Estates department at Forchelli,
Curto, Deegan, Schwartz, Mineo, Cohn & Terrana LLP,
will be honored by the Alzheimer’s Foundation of
America (AFA) on July 12th at its Care on the
Fairways golf event at the Muttontown Golf & Country
Club in East Norwich, NY.Mr. Smolev
has been a member of AFA’s board of trustees since
2007.
AFA is a leading national nonprofit organization based
in New York that focuses on providing optimal care to individuals
with Alzheimer’s disease and related illnesses, and
their families, and unites more than 1,400 member organizations
from coast-to-coast. Under AFA’s umbrella, these
organizations collaborate on education, resources, program
design, fundraising campaigns and advocacy – all
resulting in better care for those affected by the disease.
Proceeds from AFA’s fifth annual golf tournament
will benefit AFA’s programs and services nationwide.

Mr. Smolev, a resident of Jericho, began his legal career
at the international accounting firm of Peat Marwick Mitchell & Co
(now KPMG). Mr. Smolev has been an adjunct professor
at Hofstra University Schools of Business and Law. He
has edited tax-related professional texts, authored articles
for The New York Law Journal and has served as
an expert source for a number of Newsday articles.
His chapter titled, ‘Estate Planning Client Strategies,’ has
been published in the 2009 Aspatore book, Inside the
Minds:
Estate Planning Client Strategies.
Mr. Smolev has been an impartial Hearing Officer for
disputes in the public school and municipal government
systems. He
is a member of the American, New York State, Nassau County
Bar Associations, and the New York State Association of School
Attorneys, where he served as President (1984). Mr. Smolev
is a member of the New York City Police Museum Board of Trustees
and serves as Vice President and Trustee on its Executive
Board. He served as member of the Long Island Cabinet
for Israeli Bonds, and on the Nassau County Comptroller’s
Audit Advisory Committee. He currently serves on the North
Shore-LIJ Health System Foundation Professional Advisor’s
Committee, the Long Island Community Foundation’s
Professional Advisory Committee and is
a Board member of the Gurwin Jewish Geriatric Foundation
and the Alzheimer’s
Foundation of America. He is a past President of the Pickett
Farm Homeowners Association and for 14 years served on
the Hofstra University Board of Trustees. Mr. Smolev was
featured in the Long Island Business News’ listing
of “Who’s Who in Tax Law” (2006), ‘Who’s
Who in America’ and ‘Who’s Who in American
Law,’ and New York Magazine’s Super Lawyers
(2009).
