Jeffrey G. Stark Joins Forchelli,
Curto, Deegan, Schwartz, Mineo, Cohn & Terrana LLP as
Head of the Litigation Practice
Uniondale, November 1, 2011 — Forchelli, Curto,
Deegan, Schwartz, Mineo, Cohn & Terrana, LLP announces
the arrival of Partner Jeffrey G. Stark, Head of the Litigation.
In his law practice, he represents individuals, businesses,
educational institutions, unions and healthcare institutions.
Mr.
Stark has served as a Justice of the New York Supreme Court,
sitting in Nassau County, and was nominated by President
Clinton to be a Judge of the United States Court of International
Trade.
Mr. Stark was the lead counsel in the case of Sumitomo
v. Town of North Hempstead, which resulted in a
$31 million damage award for breach of contract. He has
handled hundreds of cases, both at trial and on appeal,
including dissolutions of business and professional corporations,
actions for and against insurance companies, real property
actions, zoning matters, personal injury matters, fire
cases, public contract cases, physician malpractice actions,
environmental cases, deed covenant cases, fraud actions,
first amendment actions, litigated estate proceedings,
title insurance proceedings, actions involving corporate
governance, class actions, matrimonial actions, landlord
tenant proceedings, and civil rights actions.
Mr. Stark
defeated a lawsuit by former Vice President Spiro T. Agnew
seeking a commission on an Argentine business deal. In
other cases, he represented a major industrial group in
a challenge against the Suffolk County law banning disposable
plastic plates and cups, and represented two towns in their
challenge to state law mandating the closure of most landfills
on Long Island. Mr. Stark was appointed by Judge Arthur
Spatt of the Federal District Court to be the Special Master
in the case of Revere Armored
Car Company. His rulings resolved the issue of how
the multi-million dollar losses in that matter were to
be allocated between banks and businesses that had entrusted
their money to Revere.
Mr. Stark membership’s include
the Nassau County Bar Association where he was the Chairman
of the Courts Committee, Chairman of the I.A.S. Committee,
a Director, and a Chair of the Commercial Court Committee,
member of the Second Circuit Task Force on Gender, Racial
and Ethnic Fairness in the Courts, the New York State Commercial
Courts Task Force, and the Task Force on Permanency Planning
for Foster Children. Mr. Stark has handled a number of
pro bono cases, particularly those involving foster children.
For his work in this area, he was awarded the Pro Bono
Award by the Nassau County Bar Association.Previously,
he was a member of the Meyer, Suozzi, English & Klein,
P.C. law firm located in Garden City, Long Island, N.Y.,
