Jay Schwartz, Esq.

Donald Jay Schwartz (St. John's University School of Law,
1973) served as an Assistant District Attorney in the Nassau
County District Attorney's office, where he was a senior
trial attorney. He joined the Firm in 1977 and has developed
an expertise in all aspects of litigation, involving such
diverse areas as real estate, business contracts, corporate,
partnership, commercial landlord and tenant, employer and
employee rights, insurance law and personal injury. Mr.
Schwartz handled the landmark case of Mostow v. State
Farm Insurance Company (88 N.Y.2d 321) from the initial arbitration
award through his successful argument in New York’s
highest court, the Court of Appeals. The case was responsible
for changing the law in New York with regard to the interpretation
of underinsurance clauses in insurance contracts. Mr. Schwartz
also manages all aspects of the Firm's litigation practice
and is the recipient of Martindale-Hubbell’s highest
attorney rating of "AV. " He has been a Village
Prosecutor and often serves as a Judge for the New York
Regional Student Trial Advocacy Competition.
Mr. Schwartz
serves on the Board of Directors of the Transplant Recipients
International Organization (TRIO). TRIO promotes organ
and tissue donor awareness and acts as a support group
for organ transplant recipients. He is the recipient of
the Court Officer's Benevolent Association of Nassau County's
Jurisperitus Award.
Mr. Schwartz is a member of the New
York State District Attorneys Association, the New York
State Trial Lawyers Association, the Jewish Lawyers Association
of Nassau County, and the New York State Bar Association.
He is also a member of the Nassau County Bar Association
and serves on a number of its committees, including the
Grievance Committee, which is by appointment only, where
he holds the position of Vice Chairman.
