Terence
E. Smolev, Esq.

Terence E. Smolev (Washington College of Law at The American University, 1969;
New York University Graduate School of Law {LL.M. in Taxation}, 1974) began his
legal career at the international accounting firm of Peat Marwick Mitchell & Co
(now KPMG). Mr. Smolev is partner-in-charge of the Firm’s Tax, Trusts,
and Estates Department.
He has an "AV" legal ability and ethics rating
by Martindale-Hubbell Law Directory – the very highest rating this nationally
recognized publication has established. This rating is based upon extensive confidential
peer review surveys.
Mr. Smolev has been an adjunct professor at Hofstra University
Schools of Business and Law, where he taught accounting,
business law, tax law, and estate planning. He has edited
tax-related professional texts, authored articles for The
New York Law Journal and has served as an expert source
for a number of Newsday articles. His chapter entitled, "Estate
Planning Client Strategies," has
been published in the 2009 Aspatore book, Inside
the Minds: Estate Planning Client Strategies.
Mr. Smolev is an impartial
Hearing Officer for disputes in the public school and municipal
government systems and also practices in education law.
He is a member of the American, New York State, and Nassau
County Bar Associations, and the New York State Association
of School Attorneys, where he served as President in 1984.
Mr. Smolev is a member of the New York City Police Museum
Board of Trustees and serves as Vice President and Trustee
on its Executive Board. He served as member of the Long
Island Cabinet for Israeli Bonds, and on the Nassau County
Comptroller’s
Audit Advisory Committee. He currently serves on the North
Shore-LIJ Health System Foundation Professional Advisor’s
Committee, the Long Island Community Foundation's Professional
Advisory Committee and is a Board member of the Gurwin
Jewish Geriatric Foundation and the Alzheimer’s
Foundation of America. He is a past President of the Pickett
Farm Homeowners Association and for 14 years served on
the Hofstra University Board of Trustees. Mr. Smolev was
featured in the Long
Island Business News’ listing of “Who’s
Who in Tax Law” (2006), Who’s Who
in America and
Who’s Who in American
Law, and New York Magazine’s Super
Lawyers (2009).
